While I always love swimming in big surf and waves, there’s something excellent about a rocky cove. There are always areas to scramble around on the rocks and peer into hidden corner and nooks. These are the best beaches for discovering tide pools, and tide pools are the best places for discovering…all kinds of things! Where I live in New England we find hermit crabs of all sizes, trading and moving from one shell to another; green crabs, which are very bitey and should be treated with caution!; as well as the occasional starfish, sea urchin, sand dollar, and more. It should surprise no one that Frog is a big fan of the rocky cove beach on Rock Island. Fun fact: my next door neighbor and dear friend actually had a hermit crab as a pet named Gar Baby, which is why I chose that name for Frog’s beloved crab friend.
