I am so excited to share the news that my next book will be out in the fall of 2026! (Yes, it is a long time from now. No, I cannot write any faster. I tried).

This book is part of the reason I keep a card stuck to my desk that reads “What If?”

Because what happened is that I kept collecting fox stories. Foxes that were stealing shoes by the hundreds in a small German village. Foxes that were boldly walking thousands of miles across the Arctic ice. Foxes that were wandering through friends’ backyards. And I thought…what if?

What if could tell a story about foxes…a true story…okay, lots of stories…and talk about what we know to be true about the wonderful vulpes, but also about what humans have been imagining about them for thousands of years? What if other people are as obsessed with this magical creatures as I am? (And judging by social media, you totally are!)

And so SLY FOXES was born!

I’m extra delighted to be working once again with the amazing Della Farrell at Holiday House (who helped make BREAKING THE MOLD so awesome, and awesome-looking! Seriously, the design team on that book made magic! Check it out!).

And I’m also grateful that as the world continues down some scary paths, I have had the opportunity to spend the last several months deep in (imaginary) conversation with this clever, adaptable, morally flexible, terribly vulnerable, and still quite mysterious creature. We can all learn something from a fox, I think.

I hope you think so too.

WELCOME!

Hi! If you’re here on my website, clicking through my blog, you might be interested in books for kids and teens. Or you might have googled something and wound up here by accident. Or you might just be bored.

Whatever the reason, WELCOME!

I will warn you, however, that I am woefully bad at updating this blog right now. (And by right now I mean since 2018 or so). It is my heartfelt intention to start writing regularly again…about books I’m reading that I love, about the writing process, about cats or politics or whatever else is on my mind. But that intention has not quite motivated me thus far, so who knows when or if I’ll start writing regularly. It does seem that I’m better off meeting my book deadlines (a new one coming out in fall 2026 — need latest post!) than rambling on the blog.

Anyway, these are all my current books, along with one of my current cats. If you have questions please feel free to write me with the contact form below, and I’ll do my best to get back to you!

Happy reading!

xoxo Dana
